Licensing
Dotvault starts with a 14-day free trial — every feature is unlocked. When the trial ends you’ll need a license to keep using it.
Pricing
Dotvault is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. There are three tiers, and the current prices are on the pricing section of the homepage.
| Tier | Developers | Machines |
|---|---|---|
| Solo | 1 | 2 |
| Team (5) | 5 | 10 |
| Team (10) | 10 | 20 |
Every tier allows two machines per developer, so a work Mac and a personal one each. The machine count is the limit Dotvault actually enforces when you activate; the developer count is what the licence is sold for.
Every tier includes twelve months of updates from the day you buy. When that window ends the app carries on working exactly as it did, you just stop receiving new releases until you renew. Renewal is optional and priced per tier. Settings tells you the date your window ends, and once it has passed, how many releases have shipped since.
Renewing extends the licence you already have. There is no new key and nothing to paste anywhere: you buy a renewal, and the date behind your existing key moves. The key itself carries on working exactly as it did, and it still never expires.
Dotvault picks the new date up on its own within a week. If you’d rather not wait, Dotvault → Check for Updates does it straight away, and Settings shows the new date once it has.
The twelve months are added to the end of whatever you have left, so renewing early costs you nothing. If you’ve already let the window close, they run from the day you renew instead, so leaving a gap costs you nothing beyond the releases you skipped.
Activating a license
After purchase you’ll receive an email from Lemon Squeezy containing your license key. In Dotvault:
- Open the
Dotvault → License…menu. - Paste your key.
- Click Activate.
Managing activations
Each licence can be active on as many machines as its tier allows. To move your license to a new machine, first deactivate the old one via Settings → Licensing → Deactivate this machine (you’ll see an inline confirm before it goes through). If the old machine is gone or wiped, sign in to the Lemon Squeezy customer portal linked from your purchase email and deactivate the orphaned instance there.
Offline
Dotvault checks your licence with the licensing server every 7 days. If that check fails, for any reason and for any length of time, nothing happens: you stay licensed, the app keeps working, and your licence stays on disk so there is nothing to reactivate when you are back online. Only a response from the server saying the licence is no longer valid, after a refund or a deactivation, will lock the app.
Refunds
Licenses are refundable within 14 days of purchase. A refunded license will stop working in Dotvault after the next background check.
