About
Hi, I'm Will.
The Laravel developer behind Dotvault.

Dotvault started with my own .env files. I've spent years building Laravel apps, and the same half hour kept repeating itself: a fresh clone with no APP_KEY, a value that was right in one file and stale in another, and no history of any of it, because the file is gitignored for very good reasons. I wanted a proper editor for the thing, so I built one. It reads a composer.json now, and a package.json, a Gemfile and a requirements.txt, because the problem turned out not to be a Laravel problem. It just started as one.
I've been a developer for more than twenty years, and a hands-on technology manager for a decent chunk of that. These days I'm Chief Product and Technology Officer at Think Digital Group, which keeps me busy with all the usual grown-up concerns — shipping products, building teams, and making sure the things we build actually do what people want.
I live in the UK with my wife and two kids. Dotvault gets built in the evenings and on weekends, around the day job and everything else that comes with family life. It is, very deliberately, a small thing done properly — not a startup, not a platform, not a series-A pitch. Just the tool I wanted for myself, shipped so other people can use it too.
Outside of all that, I play music. I'm one half of a band called polyOrbit and I've got a modest home studio where a lot of our recording happens. I'm also a former fat bloke slowly getting himself back in shape in his forties — running more regularly than I used to, lifting things that are heavier than I'd like, and generally trying to undo a few years of sitting in front of a screen. With varying degrees of success.
